Memo to whoever tried burying hidden treasure near the rabbit house at Best Friends: you made one small mistake. Apparently you left a little cilantro — or at least a handful of Cheerios — inside the chest, along with all that gold and jewelry. Sad to say, Bubbles the rabbit is going to find your secret stash sooner than later.
Rabbits love to dig, as anybody who has spent much time around rabbits can attest. They love to tunnel, to roll around in the dirt, and just landscape the day away. For this reason, all the rabbit areas at the Bunny House have metal fencing that goes deep under the ground before ending in concrete. Any rabbit who wants to try and dig out for a night on the town will never get far. Still, it doesn’t keep them from trying. But, you know, that’s not really what Bubbles has been doing lately. He’s taking this digging thing to a whole new level.
At the Bunny House, the hay for the rabbits is kept in a large wooden box. And that buried treasure, the hidden cilantro stash, must be somewhere deep beneath this particular structure — because Bubbles attacks that with reckless abandon every day.
We’re talking about one committed rabbit, here. He even skips breakfast! All the rabbits are kept in at night, but come morning when he’s turned loose, he beelines it straight to the hay bin and sends dirt flying in a spray like you wouldn’t imagine. Never mind that whole morning meal concept. The caregivers even have to fill in his handiwork from time to time so he doesn’t actually cause the structure to sink into the ground.
You know, if anybody out there is looking for a kindred spirit in the treasure-hunting field, you might have just found your match. Just be sure you can keep up!
